I think it's just that Microsoft didn't feel like it was worth the investment to also give Gears 2, 3 and possibly Judgment the next-gen remake treatment back when they did Gears of War: Ultimate Edition. They also don't feel like just doing straight up ports of the remaining games now for PS5 and PC because they fear people would see them as too outdated and since they're fully backwards compatible and enhanced on Xbox consoles (and XCloud
) they feel like they're already available enough for those who want the classic games
Personally, I'm just fuming about how Microsoft has handled the franchise because I never even wanted remakes in the first place. The Xbox 360 games have an iconic, era-defining look (and still look great!) and rebuilding them in UE4 or now UE5 just takes all of that away. All they needed to do was publish a collection of all 4 games for PC years ago
Oh yeah, and fuck CliffyB and Epic too. When Gears of War 2 was coming out he proclaimed that the series would never release on PC again after people gasp pirated the PC port of the first game and none of the other Epic-developed titles ever made it to PC.
