China is not even the USSR (although I wish they were), they’d leave the US alone if Uncle Sam would just stop trying to goad them into senseless fighting.

I'd argue that China would do one better and find a win win cooperation if the USA would just act in good faith (as if they ever have). China has repeatedly shown to be peaceful in general. That's not to say they're a perfect utopia or anything but they at least appear to operate in good faith and with the intention of improving material conditions.
