The political economy acts as a cultural sieve. Socialism amplifies the progressive aspects of human culture whereas capitalism amplifies the reactionary.

Furthermore Western imperialism means only the fascist / liberal "other" is considered acceptable. So the communists of any given nationality or ethnicity must be eradicated as they are the only real threat to capital.

Given the above one can see, for example in Eastern Europe, how a people (we are generalising here) made sapient through socialism devolve into barbarism once capitalist cultural rot takes hold. The only salvation is socialism again.

The beauty of dialectical materialism is understanding the constantly changing character of any given thing leaving behind metaphysical immutable essentialism.

(The counter examples of these are Chinese liberals defending the CPC or Cuban catholics defending socialism etc)
