No, Democrats has to attract voters with a centrist view because these are the largest block. Note that in Germany and Romania the centrist candidate won. Most people do not have extremist views.
Assuming they are speaking from an American perspective: left is just normal liberal everywhere else, aka center to center right.
WTF are you smoking? Most Latin american elections are more politically comparable to the US than Germany and Romania.
Are you saying that El Salvador resembles the US more than Germany or Romania?

Romanians don't vote in US elections. What's your actual evidence that appealing to 'centrists' would get the Democrats for swing state votes?
Germany and Romania shows that people tend to have moderate rather than extreme views.
