because it turned out Americans are too meek or too ignorant to act
It also doesn't help that all of the people with guns, like the current situation. They may subsequently change their mind when the realities of the situation start to hit in a few years, but currently they're alright with it.
Not all gun owners like the current situation.
Source: Gun Owner, do not like current situation. There's a vast difference between a responsible gun owner and those ammosexuals who just want to be given an excuse to open fire at anything.
