When I was younger, I thought “making it” meant money, hustle, status. Now I just want stability, a calm mind, and maybe a good dinner. No shade to ambition, but these days, peace of mind feels like the bigger flex. Curious if other guys have had this quiet shift too, or if I just got tired.

To help jumpstart this community I am reposting questions from /r/AskMenOver30 that I think are good. The original reddit post can be found here.

Yes! When i was young i was certain i was going to be rich. I genuinely thought it was important to make a lot of money. i am now in my late 40s. i have a wife and a little boy. all i want to do now is hang out with friends and family, read, play the piano, etc. i have a gym membership and i play some racquet sports. all of these things are pretty cheap. i don’t have use for big houses, sports cars etc if having them means i have to spend more time working. i have a job i don’t hate and i find it easier to live cheaply than to grind. our condo is small, so we go to the park/library/rec centre for fun. we buy used stuff whenever possible and i drive a 14 year-old (dependable) car, though i mostly ride the bus. we cook at home 90% of the time. my work hours are strictly 37.5/week. i feel very successful these days.
