Fediverse vs Disinformation

1376 readers
18 users here now

Pointing out, debunking, and spreading awareness about state- and company-sponsored astroturfing on Lemmy and elsewhere. This includes social media manipulation, propaganda, and disinformation campaigns, among others.

Propaganda and disinformation are a big problem on the internet, and the Fediverse is no exception.

What's the difference between misinformation and disinformation? The inadvertent spread of false information is misinformation. Disinformation is the intentional spread of falsehoods.

By equipping yourself with knowledge of current disinformation campaigns by state actors, corporations and their cheerleaders, you will be better able to identify, report and (hopefully) remove content matching known disinformation campaigns.

Be prepared to evacuate your draft-age children. Think that's hyperbolic? Ponder this:

  • Military recruitment is at historic lows
  • The only president to serve 3 terms was Roosevelt, and it was because he was a wartime president and special dispensation was made to avoid changing commander-in-chiefs in the middle of a major conflict
  • War time presidents historically have higher chances at re-election. Bush Jr, the second worst president in US history, would never have gotten re-elected if 9/11 hadn't happened.
  • Trump wants to remain president so he can continue his graft and avoid prison time.

The 22nd amendment was created because of Roosevelt. There was no "special dispensation," he simply broke the two term tradition.

Interesting. I thought the 22nd was a strengthening of an existing rule. I'm aware Washington turned down a third term despite broad popularity of him continuing, but I thought presidential term limits were enacted prior to Roosevelt but were not strong enough to prevent a third term.
