I tried so many self hosted note taking apps I eventually settled that most are... either crap, or not worth it because you WILL find something which annoys you and you will try to fix it and you'll get in a vicious cycle.. of either performance, usability or security lacking.

1 Zim Wiki is the best if you want to have an easy way to take notes 2. If you want something to be accessible everywhere and in markdown format, just use fossil SCM either as wiki or editing the files manually...
