Soulslike - Discussion, News, Memes

This is a community for discussion, news, and memes pertaining to the video game sub-genre "soulslike".

Given Lemmy's size, the definition of soulslike may be treated relatively loosely. While games like the numerous FromSoft titles, the recent Star Wars Jedi games, Lies of P, Nioh and similar games should be the focus, games that incorporate soulslike elements - like Hollow Knight and Blasphemous, for example - may also be discussed here.

Basic Lemmy-quette applies. Additionally, since flairs don't exist yet, please do make sure to include a marker to denote what game your post is about in square brackets for clarity's sake. An example could be:

[BB] This enemy is so difficult!

or

[DS1] Anyone struggling with the gargoyles?

Honestly no other game has managed to make both the parrying and the dodging feel great.

Finished lies of P and just couldn’t stand how the parry window and the animations align. They seemingly can’t telegraph a normal swing. Every attack swing has a weird delay and timing in some combos. Can parry most of them just not every attack in a combo. It’s not even doge catches just the default animations are bizarre. And I know it’s not TV input lag because I have absolutely no issues with nailing every parry in Sekiro or playing Hi-Fi Rush with an S rank.

Still would prefer to fight two of these ogres over some of the hidden warriors later in the game 🤦‍♂️

Yea I know what you mean. Romeo's combo, for example, is notoriously hard to parry for many players and even after several playthroughs, I still struggle with it and usually have to just run away from it. In comparison, I can rather easily defeat Isshin without getting hit once :s

I still like the parries in LoP for the most part, specifically Green Swamp Monster and Laxasia are quite fun to fight with the parries, but I get what you mean. It's always felt a little tighter and less forgiving than Sekiro

I eventually got a pretty good feel for Lies of P and felt like it was a really good middle ground between Sekiro and Dark Souls 3. It felt weird at first but I think the jerky animations are part of the movement for the puppets and that jerky movement gets weirdly readable.
