On the subject of Oklahoma, after they said that the Native Americans could keep it, they pulled a 180 and decided Americans could settle there. There were 2 major populations, the Boomers, who moved in when they were supposed to and settled in a big wave, and the Sooners, who moved in before they were allowed to and were already settled in the best spots when the Boomers arrived. To commemorate one of our most ethical moments of western colonization, the University of Oklahoma decided to name their mascot the Sooner. So there ya have it, thr official mascot of UO is the people who illegally moved into Native American that we promised would be theirs forever.
