Porn is, and always has been, an exploitative medium.
That being said, in the 90s it allowed me to make an entire year's worth of money in one (unpleasant) day. That allowed me to afford my own car, so I could get a legit day job, and the other stuff I was doing became a what would now be called a side-gig where I had the option to say no.
I was very very lucky.
