He could, but it would basically be suicide for him. So he won't.

You can't base an empire on your own strong personal might, and then show weakness. A palace guard like Rosgvardia is only useful as long as they actually believe you have the ability and power to protect them like they protect you. The moment that stops, it's just a question of who finds the balls to kill Putin first.

The fact he admitted to the drones impacting the economy is pretty telling though. I'm actually surprised by that.
