There are progressive pockets of the population, but even in the heralded cities, as soon as you get away from the inner suburbs, you're deep in the territory of the halfwits

I made a move to somewhere considered regional Australia, and the majority of the people around me are simple hicks who constantly reinforce the stereotypes they get upset by

Agreed. Calling people idiots if they vote differently to you is not a way to swing them around to your side of the political spectrum.

Most people aren’t idiots. If someone is opposed to your views, find out why and try to understand how they came to their conclusion.
