If you think the rich should be able to choose how the poor eat I would counter that the poor should choose whether the rich eat at all.

Do you think people born to a higher position deserve a better quality of food based on their birthright?

Not the OC. I think the point there is we should all be eating less steak, but I get what you're saying.

Food should absolutely be a human right, but what you receive should be based on survival needs and sustainability. I don't mean bread an water but rather a broad selection of staple goods that results in a varied diet with the ability to choose for yourself what you eat. Steak, and most other meat products, shouldn't be part of the basic selection, they are luxury products without a sustainable way to produce in large enough quantities. The equivalent is that free public transport wouldn't include flights since that simply isn't viable at the moment.

Whether luxury goods that slowly kill the planet should be available at all is a different question entirely that can't be solved in our current geopolitical system. There are ways to address this but it would require a complete global restructuring that goes way beyond what food as a human right would require.

I think nobody deserves steak.

If you go down that path, why not give cows the birthright to live?

Because the deer that the wolf kills to eat it doesn't give the deer a right to live.

We're animals too. We just happen to be better and more efficient at killing our prey.

Then why not prey on human labour and take as much as cheap food can offer? Let humans work for a cheap ration of corn. It can't get much more efficient.
