Probably because a lot of the anti-psychiatry movement is just jealous psychiatry is muscling in on problems that should rightly be dealt with by exorcising body thetans... /s
It's easy to get tarred with the broad brush of anti-science, while it's easy for psychiatry to don the cloak of science. People assume I'll be arguing against vaccines next...
People have legitimate reasons to distrust the psych field, though. It's been abused, even in the West, to rob people of resources, autonomy, even voice.
I'm one of them!
Problem is, if you take the medical model away, sociey delegitimize the problem. If you're not “clinically” depressed, then you must just be lazy. Saying it's a “disease” is a way for it to be taken seriously, as little as it has to do with traditional medical diseases. As a result people cling to medicine as the only way they can be taken seriously.
I don't think I've ever said anything negative about psychiatry to net positive upvotes.

Aw, thanks. Does Lemmy have a anti-psych/anti-therapy space?
Probably. I don't really know.
