Ergonomic, split and other weird keyboards
Rules
Keep it ergo
Posts must be of/about keyboards that have a clear delineation between the left and right halves of the keyboard, column stagger, or both. This includes one-handed (one half doesn't exist, what clearer delineation is that!?)
i.e. no regular non-split¹ row-stagger and no non-split¹ ortholinear²
¹ split meaning a separation of the halves, whether fixed in place or entirely separate, both are fine.
² ortholinear meaning keys layed out in a grid

Whoaaa I totally missed this, it rules!!! Wish I could afford one, but definitely gonna chuck a few bucks in regardless
Thank! Glad you like it! Yeah I understand. The mold cost is very high since the geometry is complex.
It's a totally understandable price, I'm just broke lol 😝
Just pledged! I didn't see on the kickstarter, sorry if I missed it, but will this be open sourced? Also, would you consider looking into PHA for the injection molding in the future? Wayyyyyy more environmentally friendly, and pretty sturdy to boot!
It wouldn't be open source. The main reason is because we want to do a clinical trial on split & curved keyboards and need to get govt funding. It'd cost >$100k. I've tried applying for grants already and was rejected because they wanted to see a patent. So it can't really be open source. I was thinking if we got a large enough Kicksarter that we might not need grant funding (or enough sales after). But that isn't looking like it'll happen haha. Which is fine, just got to keep chugging along. I've thought of a few ways around this to still give back to the community. But either open sourcing parts of it that are not covered by the patent or, from what I've seen some medical device companies do, dedicate a portion of profits to provide the product for free for people who can't afford it. But yeah I mean this keyboard was built on the back of giants so giving back is an obvious thing we need to do.
That makes sense to me, not much choice there it seems. Could always jusy release the patent early once it's done what it's needed for 👍
Right that's true
