It was announced that Puerto Rican artist Bad Bunny would be performing lead at the actual halftime show. Puerto Rico is a US territory and the people who live there are US citizens. Bad Bunny performs music in Spanish. The new Republican culture war is saying that Bad Bunny is not a US citizen because he's from Puerto Rico.

It feels like it's becoming a trend for US right wingers to get mad about the Super Bowl halftime show. Last year they complained about Kendrick Lamar and Taylor Swift. In 2023, Trump called the Super Bowl show with Rihanna, "the worst halftime show in super bowl history". In 2022, Charlie Kirk said that the Super Bowl show with multiple hip hop artists was "sexual anarchy".

I don't think I've heard this from anyone with much influence. The point is more that, because his music is in Spanish and he's vocally anti Trump (not a lot of half time show worthy artists who aren't TBH) he appeals to a lot of Hispanic people and it looks like a symbolic middle finger to the right from the NFL; obviously this is irrational since he's just an enormous artist, as always the chuds just want to play the victim. I don't think they're going as far as to deny that Bad Bunny is a citizen though, if anything it's more that he appeals to immigrants, hence Kristi Noem promising that they'll have the DHS at the Super Bowl catching immigrants.

Bad Bunny usually doesn’t tour the mainland us which makes his Super Bowl stunt more poignant.
