At 7:40 a.m. Wednesday, federal judges in the Western District of Washington swore in former King County Superior Court judge and federal prosecutor Roger Rogoff as their pick for U.S. attorney.
Fifty-four minutes later, President Donald Trump fired him.
Rogoff, who recently resigned as director of the state office of independent investigations, formed to investigate police killings, is now the rope in a tug-of-war with the Trump administration. The district’s 17 sitting federal judges began looking for a replacement for Neil Floyd in January after the president failed to formally nominate him, instead appointing Floyd as interim and later as a “first assistant” U.S. attorney in order to sidestep the nomination process.
Rogoff said he was waiting in the lobby of the U.S. District Courthouse downtown to meet with Floyd, and presumably take Floyd’s office, when he got an email saying he’d been fired.
“We are working on legal action right now,” Rogoff said. “The rule of law requires that prosecutorial decisions remain free from political interference, and that lawful judicial appointments be respected. I remain grateful for the confidence placed in me and proud of the career professionals who continue to serve the people of Western Washington.”
Rogoff’s firing sets up a legal battle over a federal statute that gives a district’s federal judges authority to appoint a U.S. attorney if there is no formal nomination or Senate hearing.
It’s tempting to think that Americans have done this, but it’s really just the 10-20% of our loudest, dumbest, and most gullible
source: stuck here with them
Closer to 40%
Literally yelling at a community of people who live in one of the most left-leaning states in the union lol
The other 80% aren't doing much to stop them then, which makes them just as guilty.
You got any pointers? Ideas? Or are you just talking to talk?
Yeah: secession.
If a state figures it's in an abusive relationship with the federal government, it should leave the union.
As for me, I'm only talking the talk: I've expatriated 25 years ago. I don't live in that godforsaken country no more, thank goodness.
So just to be clear, you left and are holding everyone who remains accountable? So you did nothing for anyone but yourself, but you expect others to do more than you and judge them for failing to do so? Please shut the fuck up then.
Words are wind. Your ideas are flaccid and unrealistic, and you don't have skin in the game to execute on them anyway. I'm not saying that I wish this wasn't happening here (though I don't wish it on anyone else either), and that I am not tempted to leave with my family, myself. But I sure as shit wouldn't have the gall to walk out of a building with smoke coming out of it, then stand and watch from across the street until it is engulfed in flames, and then say "Man, those people in that burning building should really do something about it. Pretty irresponsible of them to let it get this far out of control." I definitely wouldn't suggest some dumb shit like "You should separate your part of the building from the burning parts before it catches them on fire too!"
Yep. 100%
Correct. I owed this country nothing so I left it when it started to turn into a putrid proto-fascist mess in 2002. My primary duty is to my family, not to a failed experiment in social exploitation and racism that pretends to be a democracy.
Two things.
Since you lived in the US, you should know how difficult that is in practice. I would be on board with it (there's a reason my pfp is the Doug flag), however, Washington is also home to the US' biggest nuclear arsenal, and the feds would not just roll over and take WA leaving. WA has no standing military unless you count the national guard, but I don't really count that. A militia, while one could definitely be formed, would not fare well against drones at 50,000 ft. People tend to not appreciate getting vaporised and many would roll over just from the sight. My point is, it's not as simple as just seceding.
Secondly, I'm glad you were fortunate enough to escape. Unfortunately, the vast majority does not have that privilege and are stuck here. I'm not sure why you're saying that those of us trapped here are just as guilty, when you should know how difficult it is for the lower class to escape. Maybe you should acknowledge how privileged you are to be able to escape instead of shitting on those of us trapped here?
What would you have us do?
He wants us to secede because that would be "safe and bullet-free".
Delusional.
