Generally, an artifact should be 100+ years old, but this is a flexible requirement if you find something rare and suitably linked to an era of history, not a strict rule. Anything over 100 is fair game regardless of rarity.

I guess it makes sense. You keep the lamp off most of the time for safety, then flick it on, do a quick scan, and fire (or not) at your target before ducking back down and extinguishing the lamp.
Probably more of a "You hear a bump in the night, so here's your lantern and your gun in one easy package" sort of thing.
Nowadays I suppose I'd swap that for a pair of IR night goggles and a gun with laser sight. Something like that.
(shit, why am I fantasizing about guns? I hate guns.)
Mounted flashlight. Blind them before they see an even brighter light. It's super effective.
