Good riddance to the motor if water got into the air intake.

We'd see it sometimes when I would work as an auto tech. Most of the times the rods wouldn't get bent and you could purge the engine by pulling the spark plugs and running the starter to pump out the cylinders. We'd change the plugs, the oil, and the air filter and they'd run just fine.

The ones with bent rods usually get that way because they tried to restart their hydrolocked engine.
