Yeah, the point was never that dumb people don't know they are dumb. It's that less knowledge overall leads to less uncertainty, in a sense.
I always walk to the ocean at this time, and the water is always higher. Of course the ocean is rising to greet me.
It's easier for that to be true if you don't know anything about gravity, how it impacts interstellar bodies, tidal pull, etc.
It's like the story of the frog in the well. Knowledge allows you to think larger thoughts, and interact with more of the world around you. You aren't dumb for not having it. You just don't see the entire picture and all the elements in play.
