The next post is more interesting https://blog.joinmastodon.org/2025/11/the-future-is-ours-to-build-together/

I'm not quite sure how to feel about Eugene's 1M€ payday. I don't think it's underserved but it's also 3 whole years of community donations.

I'm also worried that Mastodon is growing in ways that isn't really sustainable without philanthrops like Jeff Atwood (the stack overflow guy).

The thing mastodon is trying to be (twitter but good) cannot ever exist

The microblog format is bad, has always been bad, and can never be good

I'm too lazy to adjust it but I think you get the idea

I think we ought to be considering what happens to lemmy should @dessalines@lemmy.ml move on. Especially considering the most obvious next in line is a transphobei

bang-on. given he's going to continue working on the project, the payday I'm a bit dubious of.

EDIT: honestly it continues to back up the opinion i've had of Eugen's leading of mastodon for a long time. dubious, i wish he'd focus less on growth, but ultimately we could have done so much worse with our BDFL (well, not so much for life anymore lol)
