Can’t remember which one, but there was a Cracked writer that suggested American culture uses romantic love in the place of a deity. We essentially worship the concept. So many of our songs are about it. Our movies tell a cohesive story that pushes the plot forward in a way that many cultures reserve for gods or forces of nature.
