I used to change them but these days it's usually just silenced on my computers. Changing system sounds used to be a great prank to do on someone else's computer. You could change their login sound so they'd go through however much more of their day without knowing but the next day they'd log in and get blasted with the sound of 'La Cucaracha' or a pornstar moaning, depending on your target.
