and 24000โฌ more for DHH's pet projects ๐
friends don't let friends buy fashwork computers
I thought they were "only" fans and didn't give him money, what did I miss? (I kinda hoped they would come to their senses but this sounds like they didn't?)
Ah, you mean Rails World, right? Did they (the conference) actually go ahead with having DHH as a speaker? I thought big sponsors cancelled after that was announced?
It is unfortunate that Framework lists Rails World and doesn't specify if this about the past conference or if they plan to sponsor the next one.
DHH is be the chairman of the rails foundation, which hosts rails world
as for framework, they sent him hardware for the development of omarchy, that's what sparked the controversy (as well as their funding of hyprland). as for their response to the controversy, beyond their original "big tent" post, they locked the thread on their forum where they were called out, they banned the topic from being discussed in other threads, they purged posts about the controversy on their subreddit, they seem to have left mastodon (where a lot of people called them out) to post exclusively on twitter now, their CEO made a post (on twitter) about how he's a big progressive guy actually, but he refused to denounce white supremacy or DHH. and now they're giving more money to the guy, and they still fund hyprland.
idk if they're being naive or complicit, but either way i want nothing to do with them anymore.
Geeez, that's no good. It's beyond me how you wouldn't just go: "O shit, sorry, we didn't realise these people were so problematic, we'll try to do better research next time, thanks for making us aware of this" (plus the "here's who we sponsored" that they actually did). Problem solved (except for a few fasch snowflakes maybe boycotting them). They must have weighed these options (I hope) and decided to go with the fascists instead of being descent human beings? Thats bonkers to me but I guess I'm not running a business in the US ... (which apparently means you need to be a spineless bootlicker nowadays - and then leopards eat your face anyway ๐).
