Yeah.... that's a no from me, dawg.
You got me to read the article. Honestly it seems more transparent and ability to adjust things as the user wishes, which is all good. The switching to weekly uploads versus once per upgrade does seem a bit excessive. For all the things I dislike about Ubuntu that's getting me to slowly switch everything over to Debian this really isn't one of them.
Technically it's opt out. The welcome screen has it toggled on by default. But it is very prominently displayed, not hidden, so I don't mind so much.
It's not so much about how it is today than us seeing where it's likely to go in the future. I've spent 20 years with Ubuntu and every new install that I do which I wouldn't want to reinstall is now Debian. If Canonical does an IPO as they're planning to, opt-in telemetry would become opt-out. Along with all sorts of other things that can yield higher profit.
