What is a Tankie?

Alternatively, a detailed blog post about Tankies.

(caution of biased source)

Basic Rules:

Sh.itjust.works Instance rules apply! If you are from other instances, please be mindful of the rules. — Basically, don't be a dick.

Hate-Speech — You should be familiar with this one already; practically all instances have the same rules on hate speech.

Apologia(Using the Modern terminology for Apologia) No Defending, Denying, Justifying, Bolstering, or Differentiating authoritarian acts or endeavours, whether be a Pro-CCP viewpoint, Stalinism, Islamic Terrorism or any variation of Tankie Ideology.

Revisionism — No downplaying or denying atrocities past and present. Calling Tankies shills, foreign/federal agents, or bots also falls under this rule. Extremists exist. They are real. Do not call them shills or fake users as it handwaves their extremism.

Tankies can explain their views but may be criticised or attacked for them. Any slight infraction on the rules above will immediately earn a warning and possibly a ban.

Off-topic Discussion — Do not discuss unrelated topics to the point of derailing the thread. Stay focused on the direct content of the post, rather than engaging in unrelated arguments.

Brigading — If you're here because this community was linked in another thread, please refrain from voting, commenting or manipulating the post in any way, this includes alt accounts. All votes are public, and if you are found to be brigading, you will be permanently banned.

You'll be warned if you're violating the instance and community rules. Continuing poor behaviour after being warned will result in a ban or removal of your comments. Bans typically only last 24 hours, but each subsequent infraction will double the amount. Depending on the content, the ban time may be increased. You may request an unban at any time.

If it helps, I don't think I've run across any obviously right wing comments on Lemmy in a long time, at least not any that haven't been ratioed to hell and back.

Another fun story is c/conservative. It was started by a conservative, iirc, and for reasons I can't fully recall, is now modded by leftists, and the whole community's purpose is calling out conservative nonsense.

The social fabric of Lemmy seems to be very anti-conservative, which is really refreshing for me, at least.

There's a small group of con chuds over at maga place these days, but they don't seem to be growing for now.

Before them there was one acct I forget right now who was a self declared con, but I don't think I've seen his name pop up in a couple months. It's lonely on the outskirts of reason when there's no one else to support your delusions

They were ratioed so consistently and hard that they left for at least another server if not entirely. Hillariouschaos iIRC. The community was considered abandoned and someone applied for stewardship of it and was given it.

If you see a dead community you think you might be able to resuscitate and have the interest. Try contracting the mods. And if the mods have been inactive months/years contact the admins.

its hard to keep conservatives communities going, without constant propaganda bots, mostly from russia infiltrating it, like on REDDIT, where the conservative subs are mostly run by russian backed mods, and thier propaganda bots. because conservatives need constant drama in order to keep it going. they probably went back to reddit, or to X.

I personally hate that people thought it was appropriate to ransack the one conservative community. People complain about the tankies banning people for politics but then the admins go and take over a community for political reasons. As long as they weren't actively breaking the rules I don't see why there couldn't be a conservative community.

It is ok for someone to have different political views. People these days are way to comfortable creating echo chambers that discourage critical thinking.

Honest question. What alternative perspective do you think they could bring that would heighten discourse?

I personally don't think there is such a thing. Not with modern online conservatives.

I have a million other avenues for listening to conservatives if I want to. I don't need them here.

I think that is the question we need to answer as humans

Tech among other things has pushed people to be more and more extreme to the point where people are shamed for not being either far left or far right.

Conservative can mean many different things. One can be mostly left with some right leaning beliefs or mostly right with some left leaning beliefs. It isn't as black and white as the media makes it seem. You should seek out things that make you question your own beliefs.

"that is the question we need to answer"

provides no answer to the question.
