Why would you think they wouldn't be in favor? The richest man in the world is one of the favorite topics for people to talk about here too. His most devout fans don't even talk about him as much as the haters do.
I think it's largely about jealousy, whether people admit it (even to themselves) or not. I'm not saying they want to be the richest person in the world, but the vast majority of people struggle with finances to some extent, so it's understandable to resent those with wealth. When someone has something you can't get, the way out is to convince yourself you didn't even want it in the first place - and that the ones who have it are bad people.
