He never even held the gun. He had it holstered. They found it while wrestling him to the ground. His crime was using his body to block the Nazi Gestapo from assaulting a woman.
And just a reminder that it is legal to own a gun. I cannot speak to Minneapolis' carry laws, but I'm pretty confident that the punishment for breaking them does not scale up to the death penalty.
In Minnesota, you need a carry permit in order to legally carry (open or concealed). Reports are that Pretti was licensed.
