Reminiscing about the days when we'd be at Triple J Hottest 100 parties on Australia Day, enjoying beers and snags and scoffing at the position of every song (should have been higher / should have been lower).
Now it's just on a Saturday so everyone with kids is out doing extra curricular activities, some are working, and most of us forget the day it's meant to be on anyway. And you're not allowed to call it Australia Day anymore either.
So fucks me. Eventually one of the "change the date" groups will actually supply a suitable alternative, we'll move the public holiday, and maybe it can be a day of relaxing and fun in the sun again. Until then I'm going to sleep in, eat cereal for lunch, and watch some TV in the AC.
I emigrated in 1994 and had never heard of Invasion Day until about 9 years ago when I was helping a half Aboriginal mate move house. Him and his daughter were on a call and wished one another happy invasion day. I was taken aback to be honest.
I'd say you and I seem to have a similar outlook on the whole thing but hey, I'm not getting involved in that.
Hope you have a pleasant day. Cheers.
