Cartoons and Web Comics
Welcome to the ashtray in the corner of the interwebs where the weird strips go when they give up on being normal.
This is where comics show up at 3 a.m. with red ink on their shirt and no alibi.
This comm is creator-friendly. So feel to throw your own stuff into the ring! 'Weird' is better than 'good,' friends! General comics talk is encouraged too.
I'm Buckminster Burkeswood, and I say, "Let's all race to the bottom and freak out Lemmy together!"
What We Want
-
Single–panel and short web comics
-
Underground, indie, ugly, beautiful, badly lettered, whatever
-
Process shots, roughs, sketchbook pages, failure piles
-
I don't care what you used to create it. Bring it!
If it feels like something a bored bartender would laugh at, it probably fits. Weird is good!
What We Don't Want
-
Uncredited comics
-
“I found this on Facebook, no idea who drew it”
-
Hate garbage
-
Overtly political cartoons
-
Posters crying about AI

Family Circus tier comic
Thanks. I created this series specifically for Lemmy because Lemmy has potential to be an amazing place for original art and artists, not just a Reddit backup or a feed of leftovers.
Family Circus debuted February 29, 1960, and has been in continuous production ever since. According to publisher King Features Syndicate, it's the most widely syndicated cartoon panel in the world, appearing in 1,500 newspapers. Compilations of Family Circus comic strips have sold more than 13 million copies worldwide. (Wikipedia)
So I'll take that as a huge compliment any day, especially on a Monday. Appreciate you dropping a comment. ❤️
It's always better to take a clear insult as a compliment
My goal is to have people see my stuff. People liking it or not is out of my hands. Even an insult means they saw it. So I took the win! Especially if they are 'insulting' me by comparing me to a comic that has sold 13 million comics worldwide. (Yes, I did realize the guy was insulting me lol)
I'm not seeing the user post his comics, so I can't really leave him a comment on his comic, so...
Plus, I don't even hate 'Family Circus.' I'm old, so I actually read the comics pages from the newspaper when my dad would give them to me after he read them. And I liked the comic better than 'Blondie,' so I'm fine with the comparison. :)
And in another comm, people are telling how much I suck and that I use AI to create my comics, then I show them pics of my workflow and how I'm doing it, and then they call me a spammer. Even tho I only post to my own community and one other comics community.
So Lemmy isn't the most friendly and welcoming space for artists. Lately, Lemmy seems to be mostly a mix of extremely angry politics talk, and talking about how everything on earth is AI now. I was even called a bot when I replied to something....sigh...
I don't care tho, I'll keep posting because I think we have the potential to be something awesome! People have to post different content tho, and I'm just trying to be the change I wanna see :)
I hope you know that my reply wasn't sarcasm, it's one of the best ways to fuck with haters
Keep doing your thing and I hope it goes well for you
I loved your comment, and hope others see it as well, because I agree with you. Kind words seem to be a rarity these days on Lemmy, which is ironic since many were hoping this would be a less toxic place than Reddit.
So thank you for your kind words.
