Before anyone starts to mount their high horse, let's focus on the important paragraph in the article.
I can gurantee that most children of affluent families suffer less from this. Most of my colleagues in tech spent fortunes in private schools, private online education during covid, and academic training for their kids. Their kids are already interning at companies owned by others in their circles as freshmen. The gap between haves and have-nots is expanding at a truly alarming rate.
My kid is still in middle school, but in elementary, they had a focus on "Sight Words" not phonics. I remember vividly, learning phonics as a kid in school. I had to teach my own child phonics, because the school seemed to think sight words would be enough, they're not
We're moving closer and closer to feudalism, and what's feudalism without illiterate serfs with no rights?
Nah, right wing going to put them into positions of power. Look at Longnecky. Bitch is barely literate and if things go right she could be bothering people on college campuses in a lucrative possible future.
They'll put some of them in positions of power, but educated masses are harder to oppress, so they don't want that.
