The west did look the other way on the nazis grabbing power because they were taking a hard line against socialism, communism, leftists, unionists, etc. As always the oligarchy is more afraid of a little moderate reform of their license than putting an all powerful madman in absolute power over them. Not so enlightened, but they do it again and again, from the late republic roman period in Sulla to Germany here to the US.
The rich and connected invariably think they can control the political monster they've created, helped, allied themselves to. But putting any one mentally ill asshole up as a dictator always ends with that leader getting paranoid and capricious and persecuting his own base of support after the "enemy" is dealt with. The others is an ever expanding group, and the leader won't need most of their supporters after they take firm control.
France was literally run by a left-wing coalition for most of the 30s.
The West 'looked the other way' because WW1 brutally mentally scarred entire generations, and no one wanted to repeat it.
It's not like a theory, it's established historical fact, hitler got as far as he did, both in germany and with the allies, because they all hated and feared the communists and socialists. While everyone was also scarred from world war 1 was also a factor, people loved hitler at first. From the US industrialists to the UK.
Edit: I have not heard anyone even challenge the fact until you here, but online you do find people to refute established fact.
The conservative and liberal parties in Germany assisted the Nazis because they hated and feared the left-wing. Internationally, the response was overwhelmingly tense, but the post-WW1 world order was predicated on the idea of non-interventionism.
You're absolutely right, the socialist-communist popular front running France didn't fight Germany because they really loved how Hitler was crushing the left-wing, you got me.
The industrialists liked the nazis because they hated the communists and socialists. They weren't stopped sooner because of it. Hitler got the chancellorship because of it, and the industrialists thinking they could control the nazis.
No one gives a shit about france's leadership, or whatever definition of left wing you are using here. The nazis took control in Germany, and they only got that far because the industrialists were scared shitless about all of that seizing the means of production talk.
The literal Communist and socialist parties of France. Yes, that included the Communist Party aligned with the Soviet fucking Union. "No one gives a shit about France's leadership" is an extremely curious statement to make when you opened this whole fucking thing with:
But I guess moving goalposts from "The West looked the other way because they liked it!" to "Actually, I was just talking about industrialists IN Germany 🥺" is a lot easier than constructing a coherent argument.
The West did give Hitler more leeway because of his attacks on communists and socialists. If you want to revise history you could tell it to Henry Ford's foundation, maybe they would carry that revisement for you?
I love the part where I point out that one of the largest segments of 'the West' was literally led by a Communist-socialist Popular Front, and your only response is to bark your idiocy out again.
lmao
Yes, I'm sure famous antisemite Henry Ford was conducting US foreign policy towards Germany on economic grounds, and whispering in his well-known political ally FDR's ear to go easy on the Nazis.
You don't seem to understand the history, which tracks, if people understood the history we wouldn't be in this position, ready to hand absolute power to another strongman because our rich are afraid of moderate reform, just as in the roman republic in it's latter days, just as in Nazi Germany, and just as now.
You might laugh at the thought that industrialists opposed communism and socialism and in doing so enabled fascism in the mistaken belief they could control the monster they made.
Ha ha. I know right, the thought the rich influence western governments, it's laughable. As if the owners of capital allowed a dictator to take control because they were afraid of communism, it's incredulous. /s
You have nothing here.
