One of my dogs is from a Texas shelter and was scheduled to be put down.
I got him in KS at a different shelter which specialized in taking unadoptable dogs who are often scheduled for euthanasia.
His paperwork came with a warning to be careful around children and men. Turns out, he’s the sweetest boy. He loves to cuddle with anyone who will let him.
Here’s a photo of him sleeping on my bf’s feet under a desk.
I have no idea why a sweet boy was considered a problem. He just needed some love and patience.
The KS shelter is gone now or I’d recommend them, but I hope that sweet pup find a good home with a family that understands.
My late boy Jake was also scheduled to be put down within 12 hours when we made the call to adopt him. He traveled for 8-ish hours from NM to CO in a van to get to us… then took the biggest fucking shit on his first walk with us.
We were used to like, medium dogs, and he was an 80-lb pit bull and pointer mix. An immovable object if he wanted to be. An unstoppable force because he just couldn’t help himself.
My husband and I looked at the shit, look at each other… and said “Ok, buckle in.”
9 years later, when Jake turned 13, we said our tearful goodbyes as he wagged his tail and ate his last meal, a bacon cheeseburger.
I love you, Jake. I still think of you.
I’m so glad he got to spend his life with you. It fills my heart to know that Jake got a chance to receive all the love he deserved. He looks like he was a very good boy.
Our beager (beagle boxer) Della has the same energy. Short, squat, and dense
Same, we got a rescue that was at a kill shelter in texas and brought to the east coast to be adopted. I'm not gonna lie, he was a lot for a couple months, chewed a lot of things he shouldn't have, but now he's a sweetie and knows the routine and what's ok. He's an 80 lb chocolate lab mix and currently bundled up on the couch living the life.
It’s like people are getting dogs, then expecting them act like humans. The dog gets a bad rap but it’s just a dog!
Also, give him an extra treat for me!
