From what I understand, it's pretty difficult to get such clear sound from bass tapping, especially at speed. Bass strings are thick and pretty high from the fretboard — first time I've tried strumming a bass, I realized I don't have the muscles for it, and got myself one of these exercise devices (which should actually be pinched with the thumb and the fingers, not the base of the thumb).
