People still out here saying that Linux isn't user friendly while I all my friends never touched the terminal the whole time they use mint and steam os

[–] Little8Lost@lemmy.world 16 points 19 hours ago (5 children)

So now: open terminal -> type in "ping 172.0.0.1" -> fullscreen the terminal -> pretend to be hacker

I mean you could also open three terminals two left one right snapped to the side of the desktop, one runs htop the big one runs cmatrix and the bottem one is just ping 1.1.1.1

That would actually have useful information on it though.

Whats the most user friendly distribution? I had some Ubuntu version some years back and it was ok up to a point where the software center (cant remember what its called) refused to install updates / programs and even the terminal didnt deliver.

I most likely f'd something up myself with some terminal commands. Didnt even try to do anything special, just updates and stuff like that and always followed some sort of instructions

i tried several distros and eventually ended up sticking with pop_os because it's nvidia friendly. there were some hiccups with updates and such in the beginning, but now it's working fine.

fuck MS and fuck windows

ZorinOS is very beginner friendly and visually similar to Windows, it's a good option to try.

I mean from all the stuff you get at default I would recommend Mint just because you rarely ever have to touch the terminal and it just works. And well if you game alot and want a bit of console feeling steam os or bazzite. Well every distro can basically what every other distro can just the initial packag is different

That's only true until you need to use it for work and install some proprietary software, or really do anything more complex than browsing the web and using steam.
