Looks like they took the article down. I couldn't find any archived copies.
The mother and daughter were staying at the hotel for cheerleading tournament. They didn't show up one morning. There were numerous attempts to get into the hotel, but the hotel turned away police and family alike for a full day. Eventually the family convinced the girl to let the police in. There was supposedly a letter explaining the murder-suicide.
Given the context of the situation, I believe that The Independent screwed up and removed the page.
wow super fucked up. I wonder what was messed up. I cant even imagine why the hotel would be like NAH, no one can check on them, instead of, ok we cant tell you their room number but we will have someone go check on them, brb.
Yeah, if the police show up for a wellness check it makes sense to knock on the door and maybe disregard the do not disturb.
Also, nobody reacted to 2+ gunshots?
Could have been muffled (if the hotel is a good one), plus were pillows and blankets used to help muffle that. I doubt that (on both counts), and its not like they would report those things as it would give others ideas, and to be sure this tantrum (on the mothers part) and she wanted to be noticed so I would guess she might have even done it near the wall or door.
I can't guess at motives or what actually happened without more information. For all we know this played out like a TV show and they were both murdered by the hotel owner or a drug dealer.
