In August 2021 I rode 800 miles in 14 hours home from Montana on a BMW 1200 GS with cruise control, heated grips, and great wind protection. I planned to do it in 2 days but I kept feeling good so I kept going. Huge mistake; the last 3 hours were miserable and probably dangerous. I regularly ride 12 hour days but not freeways. The monotony of freeway riding takes a toll. I’ll never do it again. I much prefer to take back roads or better yet dirt. Stop for the sights, explore, eat at small restaurants and meet people. Those are the things I enjoy about riding not covering as many miles as possible.

The monotony of staring at the road was getting to me at the end as well. Combined with me getting home in the middle of the night didn't help things.

I didn't have my heated grips then but did have a throttle lock. I primarily learned throttle locks suck, and I now have no lock but heated grips :)
