Sony was an unstoppable force in the early 2000s. The release of the PS2 went swimmingly, and gamers worldwide were enjoying the technological advancements made by the console. Despite going on to become one of the best-selling consoles of all time, Sony wasn't fully satisfied with how things were going later in the PS2's lifespan. Much like its predecessor, the PS2 had a serious security problem. Once the copy protection was broken, it became the wild west, so much so, that if you buy a used PS1 or PS2 in 2026, there's a good chance it has some kind of modchip inside. Things had to change for the PS3, and Sony had a plan.

I love the PS3 so much. So many memorable moments when I jailbroke it and had all those funny coldboot intros. I feel so spoiled growing up on consoles that could easily be jailbroken or modded. I have a PS5 now after ditching consoles after the PS3, and lemme tell you, there was so much enshitification that surprised me. You really can't do half the things you used to be able to do on older consoles. Did you know Sony won't even allow you to backup your game saves to a USB stick anymore? They even removed the web browser! I remember that being one of the cool little features the PS3 boasted back in the day.

I haven't used my PS5 for about 6 months now and it's just collecting dust. I disconnected it from the Internet and I am refusing to update it in hopes that one day I'll be able to jailbreak it. I wish consumers were allowed to simply do what they wanted with the device they paid for. At least meet us in the middle and maybe disable access to PSN if we decide to jailbreak it or something!

Well somewhat good news, you're probably on <FW 12 since you've been disconnected from the net, and there was a kernel exploit discovered for up to 12.00 like a month or 2 ago

Looks like you're just waiting on a companion userland exploit so hopefully within the coming weeks/months
