These “eye strokes” cause sudden and usually permanent vision loss (pdf) due to reduced blood flow to the optic nerve.
Although rare, affecting around one in 10,000 people who take semaglutide, there was “a potential dose-dependent safety concern” for the drug, the study found.

That's pretty high odds for permanent sight loss!

Is anyone else old enough to remember the Fen/Phen issues in the 1990s? It’s crazy to me that so many people jump on weight loss drugs that are barely tested.

It was sold in the early 1990s, and utilized two anorectics was marketed by American Home Products (later known as Wyeth) as Pondimin, but was shown to cause potentially fatal pulmonary hypertension and heart valve problems, which eventually led to its withdrawal in 1997 and legal damages of over $13 billion.
