I really doubt the nvidia monopoly was preventable, the gamer who bought every nvidia bullshit graphic card is like 1%, either you bought a nvidia graphic card or you bought a weaker graphic card that would never work properly or you didn't bought it and gave up with your hobby.

All the others was a convenience that people didn't think one second in the future, the nvidia one was practically impossible to escape.

eh, in the rx280-580 the choice was not very obvious, and dlss was shit until 3.0-4.0, i legit dunno what people saw. Now the most powerful hoggers, for them the choice was always obvious, and during 1080ti it was mega obvious what to choose. raytracing is still meh-meh tech, works in like 5 games to make them prettier

cuda conquered sciences over 15 years of non stop grants of : use cuda to do stuff and get 50k for grad students, that was a pure masterclass in captivating audience and developing something useful as well

Trading nvidia monopoly for AMD monopoly or the duopoly of this two it's a huge problem anyway.

Probably will never going to be good.

Yeah, even with gamers gone(one can dream) this alone made nvidia the choice for the garbage generator.

that true, but i'm more baffled that like amd cards were never bad-bad, they were average and still made some sense for a price, it's not like majority bying nvidia buys 80-90 cards, they buy like 60 and rave about dlss that looks like shit on 1080p monitor. sure upper side of the market or encoding youtube bros, that makes sense, but the lower price doesn't, it's just halo-marketing seems to me (again, before later dlss, now it kinda works on lower cards), my general frustration with marketing efficiency is in 680-980 gen and 2080-3080, they were dogshit, 5080 is as well.

If I remember correctly during the 2080-3080 every new game put them as minimum/recommended hardware and a more expensive AMD card for the side of AMD.
