Community for CRPG games and other RPG gaming discussions. Witcher, Elder Scrolls, Fallout, Baldurs Gate as well as indie RPGs (Underrail, Avernum, Space Wreck etc.). Focus is on CRPGs, but discussion around JPRGs, ARPGs and hybrid games with RPG components is also welcome.

Tabletop/pen & paper RPG discussion is not a good fit for this community. Check out !rpg@ttrpg.network for TT/P&P RPG discussions.

Memes are not banned, but the overwhelming focus is on discussions, releases and articles. Try and post memes (on an occasional basis) that would make people who don't like memes admit "OK! That was a good one!".

Character creation is stupidly truncated, there is very little you can actually do to make a character yours when compared to more complex systems, while still being bloated by any other standard.

I got what you meant but what is it that you would want? What’s an example of character creation you like?

Just as examples I've been using recently: it should either be more like Pathfinder (complex, but with incredibly deep customization) or more like Cain (less deep options, but incredibly easy). Pick a lane, basically. If you want my personal favorite character creation it's WoD. Point buy not locked behind classes or anything, plenty of distinct options to choose from when making a character, and even has aspects specifically centered around catering to roleplay (although that's just what the system is based on).

Yeah that’s fair, I definitely appreciate the way pathfinder allows you to have far more diverse characters within even the same class and you can do a lot more on your turns. I’ve played a lot of 5e and yeah it definitely gets a bit repetitive if you’re a minmaxxer or someone who grasps the game really well. I’ll have to look at the system for WoD just out of curiosity. I think it’s the sacrifice of appealing to as many players as possible. I’ve dmed enough new players that even 5e is really difficult for character creation.
