This is the future. Not joking.
It's just neo-Siri or Alexa. Some people want to do computing tasks that way, some don't. You're right though it could replace normal digital interaction for a lot of people who will never learn traditional interfaces.
I read an article posted on Lemmy recently, which I cannot find now, that went into how development, in part, will move towards agent-oriented development. People will create APIs designed for agents rather than people.
I think it definitely has some potential, although I worry about standards and hallucinations.
Consider booking a flight with an ai agent with, “hey siri, find me a flight to Toronto from Calgary next Tuesday” and then it says, “I found 10 flights, la la la” the you say, “book two tickets on flight 123,” and it knows who you are and all your dirty secrets so it fills out the forms and probably asks for physical confirmation of payment with Apple Pay.
Sounds great!! Until it fucks up. But hey, I fuck up too. The problem is we might not know it fucked up until we get to the airport. But that’s the user’s fault for not triple checking. So if I have to triple check it, I may as well do it myself.
However, if I was blind or disabled in a way that made normal user interfaces difficult, this would be amazing.
