I've tried staying awake for an hour when I wake up around 3AM. I haven't found it to be better or worse than just going back to sleep, if I can. So, I just do whatever feels right for that night. Sometimes I'm awake for an hour or so, reading, sometimes, I just roll over and go back to sleep.
What I'm trying to say is, we don't need to make a big deal out of "biphasic sleep", if it works for you, great, but it doesn't need to become a trend or be touted as necessarily better for everyone and the latest solution to every problem. Because, we tend to do that when we latch onto something "new".
