Low stakes, but sports are rigged. And this leads me to my personal ever-hate rage belief of the Denmark-England match in the semi-finals of the European championships.
Denmark got screwed in the semi-finals of the European championship against England. The game was rigged. THERE WAS A SECOND BALL ON THE FIELD FFS! AND WHAT ABOUT THAT FUCKING ELBOW? WHAT THE FUCK REF YOURE GOING HOME IN A FUCKING COFFIN I WILL FIND YOU AND I WILL KILL YOU THIS IS ACTIONABLE.
I remember reading an article how all major sports are more or less rigged. Can't find it any more though ๐๏ธ. It does make sense to me though. I almost never see a fair ref, they're always putting their thumb on the scale in one way or another. I mainly watch football (le socceur for yanks) and everybody from certain teams always goes "well of course we will think the ref is unfair" but those teams are often having more wrong calls made against them. Then other teams will only rarely complain of an unfair judge - not every match. They'd probably say it's because they're better or not sore losers, but the thing is they much more rarely have wrong calls made, and the refs are much often more lenient. And why wouldn't it be rigged? The prizes are massive, teams have budgets equal to small countries, betting is huge, and FIFA is known to be corrupt as fuck. Why would that corruption suddenly not be systemic or structural?
On topic of high level sports I feel that usage of performance enhancing drugs must be rampant.
That's why sumo is the best, if they're in the top division they're almost always on PED. Makes it fairer lol
Even without explicit drugs, rich teams can afford so much absurd bullshit - high altitude training, hyper specialized diets, expensive training facilities, that calling what happens "competition" is just farcical. Just let them all do drugs, it'd make things more exciting. I want to see how far a human being really can jump before their tibia snaps like a reed from the stress put on it by their own muscles.
I am 100% on team "Everyone involved in the Olympics organization at a high level gets the wall". It's a mobile humanitarian disaster of graft, violence, enforced poverty, to say nothing of all the cheating but technicalyl it's not cheating.
link it if you find it
Will do!
In football there's definitely the chance for referees to make bad calls, especially pre-VAR. There were so many blatantly incorrect calls in the 2002 World Cup when hosts South Korea played. Denmark was also blatantly screwed to get England into the finals at Wembley, which was particularly bad since now we have VAR. You don't want to get me started on how many times I think this has happened in F1, 2021 season finale was one that was obvious and in recent memory, but I think 1994 and 1999 were also pretty bad examples.
The Danes have only one recourse - Re-form the Great Heathen Army and take over England. Again.
