What ways could AI/Machine learning be easily used to improve society? (lemmy.world)

A lot of the press about AI/Machine learning is doom and gloom. What do you think are some good use cases that would improve every day peoples lives?

Personally Id like to see something deployed that uses numberplate recognition and adjusts in real time traffic light timings and variable speed limits to reduce congestion and travel times.

That'd be fantastic! Curious why number plate recognition would be required rather than just vehicle recognition?

More accurate, but people would have (justifiable) privacy concerns if it wasnt done correctly/ethically.
