No that's no good either, then castle comes to check

[-] Aussiemandeus@aussie.zone 2 points 10 months ago* (last edited 10 months ago)

Hang on im still onto it.

New plan

Bc6

Rb1 checking king

Kd2

Rb2 checking King

Kc1

Rook must leave or be taken. Anywhere doesnt matter.

Qg2 checkmate

[-] Bonifratz@feddit.de 3 points 10 months ago

Right, but what about 1. Bc6 Rb1+ 2. Kd2 Rxh1?

[-] Squareeyed@aussie.zone 1 points 10 months ago

Bc6, Rb1, Ke2, RxH1, BxH1, Pg2, Nf4, Kg3/h4, Nxg2. That's as far as I've gotten

[-] wahming@monyet.cc 1 points 10 months ago

Once white loses their queen, a mate is impossible

[-] Squareeyed@aussie.zone 2 points 10 months ago

Got a modification on it. I think it works...

Bc6, Rb1, Ke2, Rxh1, Bg2+,Kxg2,Nf4+,Kg1,Ke1,Pg2,Ke2#

? I dunno if my logic is right, but pretty sure that might be it, been fiddling moves for a while...

[-] Squareeyed@aussie.zone 1 points 10 months ago

Sorry last one should be Ne2#

[-] Aussiemandeus@aussie.zone 1 points 10 months ago

Yeah that's the same answer i got.

I think that's the best way. But I'm by no means an expert

[-] Squareeyed@aussie.zone 1 points 10 months ago

I did variations where the room doesn't take the queen, you just attack the rook with the king

[-] Squareeyed@aussie.zone 1 points 10 months ago

The two key moves are Bc3 & Ke2

[-] wahming@monyet.cc 1 points 10 months ago

Tell me what you think of the sequence starting Ke2, Pg2, Qe1

[-] Squareeyed@aussie.zone 1 points 10 months ago

I tried that but ultimately you lose the queen and can't stop the pawn queening. The following most likely would be Re4+, then if you move f2 it's check, f4 you loss your queen and black queens

[-] wahming@monyet.cc 1 points 10 months ago

Doh I'm an idiot, missed Re4 somehow

[-] wahming@monyet.cc 1 points 10 months ago

Nice, I think you have it. I assume your last notation means Knight, not King

[-] Aussiemandeus@aussie.zone 1 points 10 months ago

I've been making the same mistake haha

[-] Aussiemandeus@aussie.zone 1 points 10 months ago
[-] wahming@monyet.cc 1 points 10 months ago

Given black still has pieces, in this case it probably is

[-] Aussiemandeus@aussie.zone 1 points 10 months ago

Nah i think you have to lose the queen to win

[-] wahming@monyet.cc 1 points 10 months ago

Yeah looks like Squareeyed found it

[-] Aussiemandeus@aussie.zone 1 points 10 months ago* (last edited 10 months ago)
  1. Bc6 Rb1+

  2. Ke2 Rxh1

3.Bg2+ Kxg2

4.NF4+ Kg1

5.Ne1 G2

Hows that

6.Ne2#

Edit K for knight to N

[-] fosforus@sopuli.xyz 1 points 10 months ago* (last edited 10 months ago)

After which horsie nom noms castle, checks king and black is generally speaking fucked. But that doesn't seem as neat as what they're looking for here.

[-] wahming@monyet.cc 1 points 10 months ago* (last edited 10 months ago)

How does horse take castle? Castle is on b1, free queen

[-] fosforus@sopuli.xyz 1 points 10 months ago

Oh lol oops. I thought you meant rook to f4 :)

Yeah I'm not amazing at chess.

[-] wahming@monyet.cc 3 points 10 months ago

Nvm, turns out that free queen is actually the bait for a checkmate
