It really is a pretty stark change from when I last had a gaming machine. I've been using Linux exclusively for more than a decade. I got a Steam Deck earlier this year to do some PC gaming and, with Proton, nearly everything has been a single click. No winetricks or anything else. The only exceptions that I've found have been old games and those are just handled by Heroic Launcher, without any bother (and given a shortcut in Steam).
