Facebook mums around the world have been devastated by the news that the next season of television show ‘Young Sheldon’ will be the last.

However, fans across the world are waiting in anticipation for the final episode, after the creators revealed their plan for the finale in which Sheldon commits a mass school shooting.

The creators of the show explained that they wanted to end the series with an emotional story that the average American can relate to.

“We want to end the show with a bang,” said the showrunner, “and we thought what better way to do that than with a traditional American school shooting.”

“It’s a storyline we’ve been setting up from the start, we have always made sure the character gives you that vibe. The same classic Sheldon we all know and love.”

The writers said they are excited to see the episode, including a little easter egg where Sheldon looks to the camera and says ‘Bazinga’ after brutally murdering all his classmates.

Some online were critical of the proposed finale saying that the ‘school shooting episode’ trope has been done to death at this point by American high school shows. However fans were quick to defend it saying that you can’t jump the shark in a show that’s very existence is jumping the shark.

This is big bang theory if it was good

[-] GigglyBobble@kbin.social 8 points 9 months ago

It was good in the first season or at least until Penny became smarter than the boys and everyone got married.

[-] TWeaK@lemm.ee 49 points 9 months ago

No, it wasn't good, even before everyone and everything got Flanderised. It was always a shitty sitcom that only got a laugh because they played audio of people laughing.

So many people find it just hilariously funny that it's kind of freaky. It looks like the dumbest show but for years I've heard people just gush about how good it is.

bbt was made for the masses. not for the skewed subset of the population that frequents reddit or lemmy or (insert social site name here). and the masses liked the show enough for it and its prequel spin-off to go a combined 19 seasons.

I hate this. I have a physics degree and have been of Reddit/Lemmy for ages and I loved the first seasons of the BBT. Such blatant generalisation.

Combining two different shows to make a big number of total seasons is disingenuous. Big Bang Theory was never as big as Friends.

[-] ares35@kbin.social 3 points 9 months ago

ok. friends and its spinoff (you remember it, don't you?) went twelve seasons, total.

Holy shit I had completely forgotten about Joey. Like, I had to Google friends spin-off to remember. It was terrible wasn't it? I think I only lasted a couple episodes.

Meanwhile Doctor Who be looking like "pah, rookie numbers."

The main point I was making is that Big Bang as a franchise hasn't been as universally enjoyed as Friends was. Big Bang was more Marmite. Young Sheldon was maybe more palatable for a wider range, however people never really picked it up.

I've had people say I would like that show, that made me angry. I hadn't even articulated in my head why I didn't like it at that point, but I knew it was terrible anyway.

I also had people tell me I'd like Pearl Jam, because I like Soundgarden. No, Pearl Jam don't do it for me. Soundgarden do, in spite of being published by Sony and relying on dubbing in their singles which couldn't be performed live.

Young Sheldon is actually kind of alright. The writers have clearly heard the criticisms against Big Bang. It's not a stellar show, but it deserves its standing while Big Bang is just all wrong.

Thank you for disliking Pearl Jam, there are some of us out there!

[-] vxx@lemmy.world 5 points 9 months ago

It's the voice, it's very polarising imo.

Pearl Jam came on the radio a couple months back. My daughter looked at me, with shock and disgust in her eyes. We had been listening to Soundgarden, and Spotify started playing songs its algorithm decided was similar. After a moment, she said "What is wrong with Spotify? This is horrible. What happened to Chris Cornell?"

I have never been so proud.

[-] Yawnder@lemmy.zip 1 points 9 months ago

If there is not enough crying to your liking with Pearl Jam though, try Muse!

[-] RaoulDook@lemmy.world 1 points 9 months ago

I don't like how that Muse guy sounds like he's trying to sing like Bono. I guess if you like U2 that could be good but I don't.

[-] systemglitch@lemmy.world 5 points 9 months ago

I watched about ten minutes of an episode once. Didn't see the appeal and thought maybe something was wrong with my sense of humour.

[-] Kiosade@lemmy.ca 8 points 9 months ago

I watched a clip once where the main dude said he was going to go play a game on his N64 emulator. Then the studio audience LAUGHED at that very basic statement. The fuck?

[-] systemglitch@lemmy.world 3 points 9 months ago

Like what?? Lol. I can't even comprehend that, and I'm trying very hard.
