At least in the book it's location itself was a mystery, in the movie it was a joke

OASIS will probably be based either on Java Minecraft, PrBoom, Quake or Mario 64 with a whole lot of patches by kaze emanuar.
The code of the OASIS client and all the servers but one could be open source, and only the code relating to the keys could be on a closed cource server.

I have! It was the movie I didn't watch, as I found it a cringy attempt to adapt the (in all fairness, quite cringy) book. It was an enjoyable read, but it had its parts that were less... creative.
So then how could one server hide code for a pyramid that was distributed free to everyone as a template but could also be modified by the user as they saw fit?
I'm not sure specifically what part you're talking about, but there are ways to make open source stuff not easily modifiable, eg, blockchain. As for the stuff he didn't want everyone knowing, such as the keys and the clues, could be stored on a closed source private server.
The part where he has to go to a Tyrell building, but it's easy to find because it's a default free template everyone uses a lot.

I mean if you don't know what the software in the headset that you own does... WTF?! It could be doing anything: What data does it collect? What do they do with that data? Even if you read and understood the license, they could be going against it without you ever finding out. Not even thinking about your right to modify what your headset does, or distributing your patches...
I'm using FOSSasis, and I hope you guys make the switch as well. It's free (as in freedom) and decentralized: meaning if you don't like what a Server is doing (that what we call Worlds in FOSSasis), you can make your own, and you can still visit any Server that has not defederated from you. There are also plans to make it possible to transfer accounts between Servers. The economy is much fairer: every transaction is on the blockchain, so you know there is no manufactured Credit inflation.
As for the stupid Easter Egg Hunt: let the slaves fight for who is going to be master... In FOSSasis we are all masters of our own destinies.
BTW FOSSasis is actually a recursive acronym. It stands for: FOSSasis's OASIS's Superior System -asis
